Writing

Editorial

If a picture paints a thousand words, a thousand words should paint a picture. That’s always my goal writing for leading automotive titles like CAR and Octane, and the broader audiences of Detour Road Trips and The Sunday Times.

I know my cars – the history, the motorsport, how they work, why they drive the way they do – but I write creatively, conveying fleeting sensations and bottling moments in vivid detail. A sprinkle of humour helps the colour too.

And yes, I love driving supercars, but I seek out stories beyond the road tests – the richness of car culture, people and adventures all inspire me. The stories below attest to that.

Copywriting

Whether it’s press kits, marketing content or blog posts to build online communities, I can help. As a freelance automotive copywriter, I’ve worked on everything from brand books for major car makers to establishing tone-of-voice for tech start-ups.

Copywriting demands more adaptability than editorial work – two decades-plus in the trade has taught me that.

So while I’m comfortable with technical concepts, coaxing information from engineers and writing for specialist markets, I’m equally at ease crafting copy for a mainstream audience that doesn’t know its alternator from its e-motor.

Copywriting work frequently goes uncredited, but I’ve added links here for editorial-style commissions from Ferrari, Audi and Aston Martin.

If you’re a media office looking for press materials, a marketing agency needing to out-source a project or a smaller automotive business keen to establish a content strategy, you can get in touch via my contact form.
